October 25: Tell me an Appalachian Ghost Story
Learn about the Sunbonnet Girl, the Ghost of Shoal Creek, and other chilling tales of spirits and spooks as you travel along the dimly lit streets of Brevard. Dress warmly! Tours depart the Museum at 4:30 & 6:00 pm.

Behind the Scenes Walking Tours

These tours are approximately 1 1/2 hours long and allow participants to visit areas of historic buildings not generally open to the public. Tours are scheduled from May to October. Please note that tours do not run on holidays when county buildings are closed.

Tours are limited to 8 people, cost $20 per person, and are available upon request for 4 or more people.

East Main & Silvermont

Learn about early to mid-century boarding houses, the Franklin Hotel and Colonial Inn, then tour Silvermont, built by industrialist Joseph Silversteen and his family.

The Silversteen portion of the tour included the Second Floor House Museum and the third floor, which has not been refurbished. Participants will be required to climb two sets of stairs.

The tour begins at the Visitors’ Center on East Main Street.

Historic Town Square

Downtown Brevard was laid out in 1861 and centered around a town square. Participants will learn the town’s early history and then tour the 1881 brick courthouse and the first brick commercial building, built in 1899 by Nathan McMinn.

Although short in distance, this tour requires participants to climb two long, steep sets of stairs and pass through the metal detector upon entering the courthouse. The groups will meet at the Courthouse Gazebo.
