As part of America 250 NC’s commemoration, step into “Common Ground,” a space where Native American ingenuity, African resilience, and colonial ambition intersect. This “Gathering of Voices” reflects both struggle and unity, igniting the “Visions of Freedom” that sparked the Revolutionary War.
This small garden, measuring 20 feet by 20 feet, serves as a living tapestry of the multicultural roots of Colonial North Carolina. At its center lies a Cherokee Medicine Wheel, surrounded by four distinct plots. Each plot explores the agricultural practices of the Cherokee, enslaved Africans, and European colonists. There are no grand orchards here—just the humble earth that nourished diverse communities and sowed the seeds of independence.
Whether you are a family uncovering shared stories or an educator instilling lessons in young minds, our garden invites you to dig deeper. What grows from collaboration?
Explore, learn, and create—history isn’t just told; it’s tilled!
