Transylvania County Logo Contest

As part of its Sesquicentennial Celebration, Transylvania County is looking for graphic designers of all ages and skill levels to enter a contest to create a new logo for Transylvania County.

This logo will be used to produce a new County Flag, which is one of the Sesquicentennial objectives identified by the County’s Sesquicentennial Steering Committee. The logo may then be incorporated into other County branding uses, including stationery, signage and other image use. The Transylvania County Board of Commissioners will make the final decision regarding the use of the design.

We are looking for a modern, eye‐catching logo that reflects what makes Transylvania County such a unique place to live and work.

A committee of County employees will choose up to three design entries. In mid‐ July the County will put these designs on the County website

( Sesquicentennial website( allow the citizens of Transylvania County to vote on their favorite design.

The winning design shall be announced, with the unveiling of the new County Flag, during the Closing Event of the Sesquicentennial Celebration on December 3, 2011.

The contest begins on April 15, 2011 and the deadline for submissions is July 15, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. No late submission will be considered.

Contest Guidelines:

  1. Entries must be submitted by email totc150@transylvaniacounty.orgor submissions can be mailed in electronic format (on USB or CD‐ROM) to Carson Griffin, Transylvania County Sesquicentennial, 21 East Main Street, Brevard NC 28712. All entries must be submitted in JPEG or TIFF or a compatible format.
  2. All entries, whether email or traditional mail, must include the name, age, postal address, phone number and email address of the entrant.
  3. No more than one entry may be submitted by any one entrant.
  4. Entries must conform to the Submission Guidelines set out below. Entries which fail   to do so will be rejected.
  5. The deadline for entries is July 15, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. No late submission will be considered.
  6. We will attempt to acknowledge receipt of submission within one week; however, we are not responsible for entries or responses lost in the mail or by e‐mail. 
  7. There is no fee to enter the contest.
  8. Transylvania County reserves the right to use any submissions for the duration of the contest. The creator of the winning logo will be required to sign documentation giving Transylvania County rights of usage and permission to use the logo in any way it deems appropriate. Transylvania County reserves the right to modify the winning design.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. The purpose of the contest is to design an updated logo for Transylvania County. The logo will be used online, in print, and on promotional items. Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily and reproduce well in black and white as well as color. The final version of the logo must be suitable for high quality printing.
  2. The overall design must contain the name of the organization: Transylvania County, North Carolina (or NC).
  3. Due to the requirements for high‐quality printing and re‐sizing, entries must be submitted in a JPEG, TIFF or other compatible format. Color in this version must be CMYK, no spot colors.
