         Transylvania County, 1861: First Year Impact of the Civil War in WNC
                                                     Terrell Garren

2011 is also the Sesquicentennial of the start of the US Civil War. Local author, Terrell Garren has researched the Civil War and troops from the Western North Carolina extensively.  He will be speaking on th affects of the Civil War in this area that first year, 1861. 
Note:  Transylvania County's first court session (meeting of officials) was held on May 20, 1861 the same day NC ceded from the Union.

This long-running monthly program series features a wide variety of speakers, performers and artists on an array of topics. During the Sesquicentennial year, each program in the series will focus on some aspect of the arts, history or culture of Transylvania County. Contact the Library for individual program listings. All programs are held in the Rogow Room of the Transylvania County Library, 212 South Gaston Street, Brevard.
