Plott Hounds - Traveling Historical Exhibit

Beginning January 29, Headwaters Outfitters, in Rosman, is hosting a travelling historical exhibit about Plott hounds, the North Carolina state dog and a popular hunting breed among mountain sportsmen.

The exhibit, designed by Western Carolina University's Mountain Heritage Center will be housed in Headwaters' media room/coffee bar from January 29 to April 30, 2011. Called "Our State Dog," the exhibit includes historical information about Plott hounds and rare old photos. The exhibit will be filled-out with artifacts from local hound owners and hunters.

Particular attention will be paid to the Gillespie family of Transylvania County (East Fork). The Gillespies not only owned and hunted with Plott Hounds, they also produced the Gillespie Mountain rifle. Headwaters Outfitters will also have an authentic Gillespie rifle and its accoutrements for the exhibit.
