County Gifts 150th Website to Transylvania Heritage Museum

The Sesquicentennial lives on through books, music, video productions and in the hearts and minds of the many residents who participated in the multitude of activities and community events. There was one important part of this anniversary that the county wanted to preserve – www.tc150.org, the official website where histories were collected and stories were told. That has been accomplished by gifting the format and the information it contained to the Transylvania Heritage Museum for use as their official website, located at www.transylvaniaheritage.org. Not only will it be in safe hands but it will also thrive and grow under an organization whose mission is to connect community, history and life. The timeline, historical pictures, a variety of histories and the opportunity to share your personal stories or those of your relatives are still there. In addition, you will find all of the information that pertains to The Museum and a calendar of activities and events that will begin to feature family and school reunions, community center activities as well as Museum exhibits and programs. Through this new website you can be introduced to the Transylvania Genealogical Society and Heritage Gifts, both programs of the Transylvania Heritage Museum. Maybe you would be interested in doing some family research or purchasing a piece of art or a craft created in Transylvania County and selected because it represents the heritage of this unique place.

Traveling Exhibits that once played a role in a display at The Museum are now available to other organizations for use during special programs or activities. The website lists those exhibits that are ready to be loaned. The Teaching Trunk Programs take history “on the road” to schools, community centers and other locations to provide curriculum-based activities for students. This is primarily an educational outreach program for educators in Transylvania County but they are very interesting as programs for community centers, clubs and youth-oriented groups. This information is also available on the website.
