4th Annual Founders Day Fair on West Main Street

The 4th Annual Founders Day Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 10 am – 5 pm at West Main Street by the Transylvania Heritage Museum, celebrating 151 years of Transylvania County history with crafts, music, dancing, food, and more! Outside will be a Civil War encampment with “soldiers” there to answer questions about their lives, and inside the Museum, family history displays as well as the current exhibit, "Roads, Rails, and Trails," will honor the heritage of the County. Admission to the Museum is free but donations are appreciated.

Opening ceremony is at 10 am, featuring the National Anthem sung by Kit Owen, an American Legion Honor Guard, and a Salute by the 2nd SC Rifles CSA re-enactors.   A Guided Walking Tour will leave the Museum at 10:30 and visitors will learn about the founding father's of Transylvania County and the City of Brevard.  Reservations required by noon on Friday, August 31st.  Cost is $10 per person.  The tour is free to all Museum Luminary Members and their families.

Local musicians and the Sylvan Squares will entertain throughout the day, so bring lawn chairs and sit in the shade under the chestnut tree. Crafters will sell their products and demonstrate their skills, such as pottery, soap making and spinning. Many books by local authors and other handcrafts are available inside the Museum at Heritage Gifts.

Special exhibits will include antique cars, Brevard’s oldest fire truck, the pumpkin chunker from Stingy Jack’s, although we won’t have room to chunk the pumpkins, and perhaps Stingy Jack himself.

Be sure to check the Museum’s Membership Tent for information on how to become a member of both the Museum and its program, the Transylvania Genealogical Society. Their tent will also have maps and schedules for the day.

Food will be for sale by Hawg Wild, Marco’s, and Kiwi Gelato. Home-made desserts and drinks will be sold to help support the preservation efforts of the Museum.

Attention Crafters: Booth space is still available at only $25 per space. Contact Linda, 862-8228 or  heritage@comporium.net for more information.
